Simon Fujiwara speaks with students, faculty, and invited guests about his practice as an artist and filmmaker in this intimate forum as a follow-up to his conversation at The Lab on October 29 (part of the Experience It series).

Simon Fujiwara has shaped a complex and rich practice that interweaves performance, film, sculpture, and text into highly immersive environmental installations exploring the inherent contradictions in meaning and interpretation of image and representation. Often bringing personal experiences (both real and imagined) into contact with broader historical, social, and political topics, his expansive practice examines the influence marketing, advertising, social media, and other communication mechanisms have on the construction of personal identity. Fujiwara is based in Berlin and represented by Esther Schipper, Berlin.

AfterWord is a series of intimate discussions with leading practitioners in the arts who at California College of the Arts (CCA) or another nearby institution provided a lecture or conversation in a large public arena. The intention is to offer graduate students and faculty at CCA and elsewhere a more intimate, focused engagement with guests to the Bay Area in order to delve deeper into topics touched upon the previous evening.
